Life Lessons of a Stock Market Trader – Ali’s Trading Diary (Day 10)

April 19, 2015 By Nick

20th June 2014 – Day 10

Well nothing transpired next….. it’s Friday morning and my trade is stubbornly at the same level as yesterday. I speak to Nick on the phone and we decide to come out of the trade at a very small profit as there’s no volatility at the moment. We chat for a bit and decide to have a look at the FTSE 100 instead. Looks like it’s high at the moment so I place a sell trade. I adjust the relevant numbers to make it the same 3:1 ratio as before but now in this new market and I guess it’s time to ‘keep my fingers crossed’ again.

I check in periodically throughout the day, nothing much happening at all and it £3.50 down for the weekend… I feel a bit like a becalmed sailor hoping for wind only I’m hoping for volatility. Impossible to make money if nothing’s moving!

Traders need markets to move to make money, no volatility means trades are stuck at the level they are placed. This happens here with Ali, his 9th trade has stubbornly stayed still so we close it out and I point Ali towards a different market to place his 10th trade.
